Visit local galleries... Most communities have local art & craft galleries that showcase the work of artisans from your own area, and from around the country:

Attend local art festivals... There are many hundreds of art & craft shows being held every year, so almost certainly there is one reasonably close to you. This gives you the opportunity to meet the artists and see their work first hand.
